This piece I did for my American Art History class.
----------------------------------------------------------- Here's the description I used from the paper I wrote to go along with it: "...a young girl (age 10-12) who is blissfully texting away on her cell phone, ignoring the consequences and choices around her. She stands in her room in front of a vanity that has birth control, condoms, diet pills, abortion-clinic-pamphlets, and a mirror showing a grim future for herself (There was also the idea of having pictures of the ideal American body(big breasts, small stomach) on the walls around the vanity.)What I think is strongly represented in the illustration I have made, is how much younger girls are becoming who are having to address very adult issues; being sex, dieting, and self esteem about their physical self. Some other issues would be how scantily dressed she is for her age and how she is just handed an expensive piece of technology that in itself holds a lot of responsibility..." ----------------------------------------------------------- There's definitely a LOT more work I want to put into this, but deadlines are awesome like that to cut me off when I'm on a roll...blarg >o< (Also, I was strongly influenced with Cindy Sherman's work when doing this piece.) *art by me; sketched & painted in PhotoShop CS3; textures from [link] * |
